Valley of the Rainbow Wilderness Retreat and Nature Reserve is situated on the escarpment of Mpumalanga, South Africa, comprising of valleys and mountains, indigenous forests, rivers and grasslands. The region has long been recognized as an area of exceptional beauty with enormous potential for tourist developments. The area immediately surrounding the properties is well developed in terms of country lodges and trout fishing destinations. The area is well situated on the premier tourist route from Johannesburg to major tourist attractions of the Mpumalanga escarpment and the low veld regions of Mpumalanga including private game farms and the Kruger National Park. The property is situated within 2 hours drive from Johannesburg and closer than most similar destinations in the immediate area surrounding Dullstroom and is most certainly better situated in terms of scenic beauty and climate. The diversity of fauna and flora in the catchment of a perennial river, which is the major source of water for trout fishing activities, is exceptional for the area, with a variety of birds, indigenous tree and wildlife species evident. One of the major attractions is the mountains and scenery surrounding the valleys, which sets the operation apart from similar operations, as well as the abundance of water that is present.
Accommodation
The Guest House, operating as “Valley of the Rainbow Manor House”, accommodates 10 guests at any one time (5 rooms each with en-suite bathroom).
The Country House with a view on lakes and mountains accommodates 10 guests (5 rooms each with en-suite bathroom).
The five tented chalets are situated in a forest overlooking one of the lakes in the valley.
The 3 Luxury Log Cabins are located in a valley overlooking a river.
There are numerous historic and cultural sites on the properties including a historic water mill and archaeological ruins of an extinct tribe.
